A couple of Florida fillies named Kristal Richardson and Erin Stern went neck and neck at the IFBB Fort Lauderdale Pro Figure Cup last night, October 10, with Richardson winning by a nose, er, two points, in the inaugural competition from promoters Shannon Dey and Kristen Nagrani. In fact, Florida fillies dominated the 24-woman race, with the entire top five coming from the Sunshine State—which is not so surprising when you consider that a lot of figure pros live there.
Richardson, of Miami, and Stern, of Ocala, both looked fine, based on the photos, and on-the-scene observers were divided as to who would get the win. As the scores indicate, the panel thought it was nip-and-tuck as well (not always the case)—just as the judges at the Olympia had two weeks earlier, when but four points separated Kristal in fourth from Erin in sixth, and they both qualified for next year.
Third-placer Gennifer Strobo—of Pensacola—earned her first Olympia qualification in a stunning pro debut, and a proportionate pair from Orlando rounded out the top five: Candice Keene, in fourth, moved up from sixth at the ’08 Show of Champions last spring, while rookie Cheryl Brown took fifth in her pro debut,
