Supplement Tidbits

Quick Thoughts on Supplements

I’m frequently asked about what supplements I take. In the next couple of weeks I’ll discuss some of the important supplements that are MUST HAVES when it comes to building muscle, cutting body fat, and being healthy. Today, you need to understand a few things first.

1. Supplements are just that, supplements.

They supplement your diet. Depending on where you live and the environment you’re around you could essentially be missing out on a handful of micronutrients. These micros, over the long term, can be beneficial to your overall health and well being.

I’ll state the obvious: Taking supplements does not give you a green light to eat shit.*

*(Side Note: You are wasting your time and money if you don’t change your lifestyle. Maximize your supplements by eating clean, working out hard, and getting plenty of sleep)

2. You most likely won’t “feel” the effects of your supplements.

“Remember this: your body is your slave; it works for you.”

Too many times I hear people say, “well I took xyz for a couple of days and didn’t feel anything so I stopped.” Well no shit you didn’t feel anything. Taking a multivitamin isn’t going to get you Wild and Out like Jack Lalanne. You won’t “feel” fish oil lubricating all your joints like you just sprayed them with WD40.

Taking supplements is part of the process along with eating healthy and working. Do it consistently over time and you will notice the effects when you AREN’T taking them. (This does not apply to pre workouts as insane amounts of caffeine will be felt)

3. Quality is WAY better than Quantity.

You can go to big box stores and get huge jugs of supplements (multi’s, protein, fish oil etc) for relatively cheap prices. I’m telling you right now, DO NOT BUY CHEAP SUPPLEMENTS. There is a reason they are cheap and it’s because they suck. They suck about as bad as The Jacksonville Jaguars.  If you are INVESTING in your overall health then do yourself a favor and put quality stuff in your body. Research reputable brands and find quality companies that take pride in their products.

These are 3 simple approaches that you can take when buying supplements. Nothing here is earth shattering information. It’s more less just rehashing things that many people sometimes forget. I don’t want you to waste money or resources if you don’t have to.
