Sports drinks aren’t just for after a few games on the court or field. According to Richard J. Johnson, M.D., quoted in the July/August ’11 Health, sipping sports drinks that have small amounts of sugar can give you more energy and combat dehydration.
Johnson is a professor of medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Denver and was the coauthor of the study that generated those results.
If you’re a bodybuilder, you can get a bonus effect by sipping a drink that also has amino acids, like Gatorade’s G Series Pro 03 Recover—33 grams of carbs and 15 grams of protein, including essential amino acids and electrolytes.
