Hafthor Breaks 1,000-Year-Old Record

Team MHP strongman Hafthor Júlíus Björnsson (aka The Mountain from HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) broke a 1,000 year old weightlifting record on January 31, 2015! Hafthor crushed the record while competing in the MHP/SCL World’s Strongest Viking competition – which he won for the 2nd year in a row.

The previous record was held by legendary Icelander Ormur Stórólfsson when he walked three steps with a wooden log that weighed over 1,430 lbs. and nearly 33 feet long. Hafthór was able to carry the log for a mind blowing 5 steps. Following his record breaking performance, Hafthór wrote on his Instagram account “Well, today my friends, I made history! As well as winning The World’s Strongest Viking for the second time, I carried this MONSTER LOG 5 steps! I’m on my way to my ultimate goal – to win The World’s Strongest Man! NOTHING CAN STOP ME!! NOTHING CAN BREAK ME!”
