Today my back was pretty sore from yesterday’s workout. Again, I started the day with a 2 mile walk at 6:30am. In order to have time to take my daughter, Molly, swimming in the afternoon, I had to schedule my workout for the 7:30 in the evening. I usually don’t like working out after mid-afternoon. By the time I was training my last 2 clients at 5:30 and 6:30, I was tired and ready to head home. But, my training partner today was my beautiful housemate and figure model, Christena Mill. She’s always so cute and so full of good energy that once we started the workout, I was having a blast!
It was just shoulders (or so I thought) and we really got it going. We started with 6 sets of overhead dumbbell presses for the front delts. The rep range was 10-15. Next was 4 sets of DB lateral raises for sets of 10-12 reps. I like to do these in a very controlled manner with a little pause/squeeze at the top.
We hit rear delt flyes on a machine to finish off the workout, 5 sets of 12-15 reps. Well, I thought we were done…..Christena talked me into working abs with her. As crazy as it sounds, I haven’t been working my abs very much. Lately I’ve hit ’em once every 2 weeks. And, yes, they look like they do on the cover of the July issue of Iron Man. So I bargained with Christena. I would work abs if she would put me through a few rounds of mandatory poses after the workout. We were on!
2 sets of hanging leg raises, and 2 sets of hanging knee raises…..all very slow and controlled, contracting the abs hard on every rep.
We followed that with 3 sets of crunches. I do every set of abs to failure. As I went through the mandatory poses afterward my abs were on the verge of cramping. Maybe I should work them more often.
