A group from the University of Delaware tested the effects of ribose in 19 male bodybuilders randomly assigned to a group taking 10 grams of ribose a day or a group taking a placebo. Both groups participated in heavy lifting programs. They were then tested on maximum strength and number of reps in the bench press. Those taking the ribose showed significant improvement in both number of reps and strength tests.
That would indicate that ribose is capable of increasing peak power. Note that the study used a dose of ribose that’s higher than the three to five grams usually suggested as an optimum dose; however, 10 grams a day has been suggested for world-class athletes or for those regularly engaged in intensive training.
