Dennis Will be a Menace in Tampa

839rb0472Let’s cut right to the chase…I’m going with Dennis James at this weekend’s “Pro Bodybuilding Weekly” Championships in Tampa, Florida. And, David Henry will coast in the 202 and under.

Dennis the Menace will face some tough competition at the Tim Gardner promoted event with the likes of Wild Bill Wilmore, Marcus Haley, Fouad Abiad, Johnny Jackson and Tarek Elsetouchi, but the 5’9”, 250-pound James should be too thick to give up the top slot in Florida.

My long shot at the PBW shebang? Leo Ingram. If Leo the Lion shows up in prime time condition, he could crack the top 3.

At this point, only six competitors are listed to enter the 202 and under and, since none of them are named Kevin English, Mark Dugdale or Eduardo Correa, David will be beyond dazzling. Wish he threw his hat into the “main event” here, think he could have held his own.822rb0716

On the subject of Florida, congrats to Stan McQuay for his upset victory at the Jacksonville Pro last weekend, and to Daryl Gee for coming in right behind and also earning a berth at the ‘Olympia 202 and Under event at the end of September (Tricky Jackson, who will compete in Tampa, was third). Quite a pro debut for both fella’s. Of course, for those who read my blog (you mean there are some folks who don’t?), I warned you last week to keep an eye out for Stan the Man, who owns a physique most of us would kill for. Okay, how about wish for?

Yogi Avidan is also going with Dennis the Menace this weekend, and has named Craig Richardson as his long shot. Good pick, Yogi.

Christina_Kemper_Remembered_2_1Off the contest chatter now…am going to end this blog on a very sad note. Condolences go out to John Kemper and his family; John called me from his New Jersey home on Sunday and told me his daughter Tina, who just turned 40, was found dead at home by her fiancé Thursday evening.

I have known the entire Kemper family for over 20 years, and was friends with Tina. She followed John and mother Shirley as a high level NPC bodybuilder in the early 90s; I had a blast going out to dinner with the entire Kemper family during the Team Universe weekend about a decade back (Tina was working as a Chef in a local eatery). Great people…in fact, I just saw John at the USA the weekend before, sitting at his usual spot at the judging panel.

The viewing was held Monday, with church services set for Tuesday morning . My prayers are with the entire Kemper family during this heartbreaking time.
