More negative research: Researchers at Loyola University found that those who drank just 3.5 soft drinks or other sweetened beverages, such as fruit drinks or energy drinks, per week “were 150 percent more likely to develop kidney disease than those who didn’t drink them,” according to the September ’11 Bottom Line Health.

It appears that high concentrations of fructose, especially high-fructose corn syrup, are responsible for the greater risk.
