The tragic news hit last week; Patrick Matsuda, who I announced as the winner of the Middleweight class at the 2001 USA (the year Quincy Taylor won the Overall), was beaten and stabbed to death outside of his Bakersfiled, CA home on February 7.
According to various news sources in Bakersfield, Matsuda was killed by a group of people with baseball bats, across the street from his home. Annette Matsuda, the victim’s wife, was witness to the fatal beating and called 9-1-1, but it was too late.
Matsuda’s widow says her husband was angry about the constant partying across the steet in their neighborhood, so he tried to put a stop to it around 2:30 a.m. A confrontation resulted, eventually leading to the father of four’s death.
Blayne Allen Clifford, 19, and Michael Lee Taylor, 23, have been arrested on first-degree murder charges; Taylor pleaded not guilty in Kern County Superior Court on Wednesday; Clifford had his arraignment postponed until next week.
