According to Today’s Dietitian (3:14; 2001), ‘Consuming apples may help reduce damage caused by bad cholesterol and protect against heart disease.’
The researchers found that eating apples or drinking apple juice on a daily basis may help reduce damage caused by low-density-lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and protect your heart. Subjects got 12 ounces of juice per day or two fresh apples. Both reduced oxidation of LDL cholesterol.
One of the researchers noted, ‘This is the first study conducted on humans to demonstrate that naturally occurring components in apples and apple juice may help slow some of the processes involved in the buildup of plaque that leads to heart disease.’ IM
