A group of researchers from Ball State University tested the effects of amino acid supplements (0.4 grams per kilogram of bodyweight) in 17 men who were engaged in overtraining programs.
As expected, anabolic hormones such as testosterone declined significantly during the overtraining phase, but providing extra amino acid supplements appeared to limit the decline in total testosterone/sex-hormone-binding globulin ratio that usually occurs while maintaining hemoglobin levels in the blood.
