Mr. Underrated Takes Excalibur

Curtis Bryant. Photo by Merv - www.ironmanmagazine.comSee what being featured by The Swami on our videos does for people’s careers? Shortly after I gave Curtis Bryant the title of “Mr. Underrated” after his seventh place finish in the tough Heavyweight class at the Nationals, Curtis makes the cross country trip from his Richmond, Virginia home to Culver City, California and promptly takes the Overall at the highly regarded Excalibur last Saturday.

Bryant is a quiet dude with a loud physique; he’s been as high as third in the Nationals but feels his low profile has kept him from advancing in the game. Thus, the video you see our our site right now, where you find out a bit about Bryant’s background, then get to see him go through his “Pose by the Pool” routine.

Bryant is one thick cat, and I’m glad he got an additional chance to shine after the disappointment in Dallas. With the victory, he won’t be underrated for long. Add Curtis Bryant’s name to the list of top contenders for a pro card in 2008.

Alex Azarian. Photo by Merv - www.ironmanmagazine.comRobert Harris. Photo by Merv - www.ironmanmagazine.comKudos also to Alex Azarian who, like Bryant, didn’t have a pleasant time in Dallas, but decided to end the year on a strong note with an impressive second place finish in the Middleweight class to Robert Harris. Now, remember, Alex has always been a Lightweight, and Harris a Lightheavy; there was no Welterweight division at the Excalibut so Azarian was giving up 13 pounds to his thicker rival. Still, not only did he finish second in a class of 20, Alex pushed Harris to the limit as he garnered some first place votes. Check out the superb Merv shots of Bryant, Harris, Azarian and the rest of the gang on our contest portion of the site.

A.D. Cherry. Photo by Ron Avidan, GetBig.comTEPER’S TALES–A.D. Cherry was in the house at the Excalibur after his victory in the Heavyweight class at the Nationals, and says he feels great despite doing the USA, the North American and the Nationals in 2007….look for Cherry to make his pro debut at one of the Spring shows…although I didn’t stay for the finals, Abbas Khatami, also featured currently on the video section of the site, said he was going to watch the show and is already looking forward to 2008 after his impressive fourth place finish behind Cherry, Brandon Curry and Lee Banks in Teaxas…Multi-IRON MAN cover model Michael O’Hearn leads the way for the new “American Gladiator’s” men’s team in the broadcast that will premier on NBC on Sunday, January 6, then run thereafter on Monday nights at 8 pm (PST). Mike, a great athlete, bodybuilder and powerlifter, of course, was a mainstay of the previous “Gladiators” project that ran on cable about 15 years ago, and then was a member of the “Battledome” team that had a season on the tube in 1999. I’m sure Michael is a great fit for his role as “Titan” on the latest version of ‘Gladiators” which, from what I hear, follows a “300” format. show. Also, congrats to Tanji Johnson (Stealth), Valerie Waugaman (Siren) and Beth Horn (Venom), who made the final cut….
