Protein Burns Fat

Science is finally catching up with the bodybuilding world. A new study verifies what muscleheads have known all along—that a high-protein intake can help you get lean. Your body uses more energy to process protein than carbs, a measurement known as the thermic effect of food, or TEF. In the October ’08 Prevention Donald Layman, Ph.D., a professor of nutrition at the University of Illinois, says that if your diet is 14 percent protein and you double that while reducing the carbs to keep your calorie intake the same, you can burn almost 200 extra calories a day. High protein, lower carb. Hmm, that sounds familiar.
