Beginning Women’s Bodybuilding

Q: I’m a 25-year-old woman, and I’ve just taken up bodybuilding. What chance do I have of being able to build a physique like that of Kim Chizevsky in her prime?

A: Kim was Ms. Olympia in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. Her exceptional genetics for athletic accomplishment were apparent at school, where she was an outstanding high school athlete. Her inherited long muscle bellies, narrow hips and broad shoulders (for a woman), leanness and exceptional response to exercise contributed to her exceptional potential for building muscle.

You have no chance of achieving Ms. O development unless you’re one of a very small number of women who have freaky genetics for bodybuilding and you have the willingness to do everything required—natural and unnatural—for elite-level bodybuilding achievement.

After her Ms. Olympia era, Kim shed a lot of her muscle and moved to fitness and figure competitions. That much lighter version would be a better model for you to aspire to, although even that is still way beyond what most women with typical genetics can achieve.
