She’s the Pits: Jenny Lynn Takes the Pittsburgh Pro

Jenny Lynn picked up the second pro victory of her career on May 3 at the IFBB’s second-ever professional figure competition, the Pittsburgh Pro. As a testament to the popularity of the newest form of physique contest—and the number of women who have ascended to the pros since the NPC instituted amateur figure shows two years ago—31 buff beauties made a beeline for the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall for the judging. For the most part the panel continued to be impressed with the bodies that caught its collective eye at the Figure International in February. Lynn, who was also top bod at that show, scored a 10-point win over runner-up Davana Medina, with Mari Kudla 11 points behind Medina in third. All three earned invites to the Figure Olympia, although Jenny and Davana, who was third at the earlier contest, were already qualified for the big show.

Newcomer Dina Al-Sabah cut through the fortress of fine physiques to finish fourth, while Elaine Goodlad, sixth at the Figure I, was just four points behind her in fifth. Here’s a rundown of the placings:

Short Shots, A.K.A. Really Hot News

You won’t believe who’s hanging up her bikini. Susie Curry is telling folks that the post-Olympia GNC Show of Strength will be her final appearance in dancing-for-dollars competition. The 30-year-old three-time Fitness Olympia and four-time Fitness International champ cites numerous injuries sustained over the years as the reason for her decision. Her last guest-posing appearance will be at the Carla Sanches Fitness Festival in Colorado in August.

Speaking of the Show of Strength. Despite earlier reports that the second-year event, which is scheduled for Atlanta on November 7–8, would include three women’s competitions, the decision makers at GNC have decided to eliminate the women’s bodybuilding contest to make way for figure. Now, that’s a hornet’s nest I wouldn’t want to be in the middle of.
