Priest Upsets Cormier, Wins First IFBB Show at San Francisco Grand Prix

March 5, 2002 Report

Lee Priest, trailing Chris Cormier by two points after the prejudging, scored straight ones in rounds 3 and 4 (posing and posedown) to best Cormier and record his first ever win as an IFBB pro at the ’02 San Francisco Pro Grand Prix, held at the Nob Hill Masonic Center on March 2. Priest, second to Cormier at the IRONMAN Pro Invitational on February 16 and fourth to Jay Cutler at the Arnold Classic a week later, got better with each contest. He carried 205 pounds of shredded muscle on his 5’5′ frame to upset Cormier, who was a bit off form from the previous two shows.

Cormier, second to Jay Cutler at the ASC, was the solid pick for second again, with Dexter Jackson, who placed third at the Classic, duplicating that finish in San Francisco. Ahmad Haidar, the surprise of the season to date, was fourth, with Quincy Taylor continuing his outstanding rookie season with a fifth-place finish.

Tommi Thorvildsen was sixth, with Ernie Taylor in seventh; Jason Arntz, eighth; Garrett Downing, ninth; and Jeff Long rounding out the top 10.
