Outdoor Leg and Cardio Routine

Step up and take your mountain.

Enjoy the view along the way.

I talked before about leg training and changing your rep pattern, intensity, rep speed and the like to build new muscle and burn fat. Sometimes I like going heavy getting into the gym and loading up the squat bar or leg press and doing full range of motion (ROM) with heavy weight. That type of training is brutal and you can feel the soreness in the muscle fibers. Other days it’s all high reps, squeezing and stretching the muscle fibers with no rest. No easing up, no giving in… pure and total adrenaline, sweat and burning pain.

Today I decided to get out of the gym and get some fresh air. After a few days of rain here in Los Angeles the sun was shining, the air was clean and it was still a bit chilly so there was just enough of a snap in the air at 3:00 pm that you had to keep moving. Forty minutes of climbing up and down the stairs of Rancho Palos Verdes with majestic views of Catalina Island and the Pacific Ocean had my legs screaming, my lungs bursting and my attitude headed to the sky.

It’s the first step that’s always the hardest… once that’s out of the way, it’s one step after another. That’s how I achieve my goals. Life lessons are learned as we rise like a phoenix towards our goals.

Reexamine and reconnect with your goals on a regular basis. If you want to gain 10 pounds of muscle and lose 20 pounds of fat, write it down and review it right before your workouts. Read and review them every morning and every night. Get outside once in a while with your workouts and never ever give in to the lie that you can’t have what you dream… you can have it. You can achieve your goals. Know it and believe it.
