A recent study that was published in Circulation found that the Mediterranean diet—lots of fruits and vegetables and liberal use of olive oil—can play a big part in reducing atherosclerosis without drugs. It actually reduced the plaque buildup in arteries. Most of the 140 volunteers were overweight men aged 40 to 65.
