Seated Bicep Curls

1. “Nick, how did you get interested in the world of competitive body building?”

I grew up in an athletic family. My cousin was big into baseball, and my dad was a top marathon runner with numerous trophies, plaques etc.  I had dabbled in just about every recreational sport in my school but could not get into any of them. It was always a chore to go to practice or a game because I was not passionate about any of them. I wanted to be a part of something in which I could see reward from as well as feel passionate about! Simultaneously I was always very into muscular physique without even realizing it. I was a huge fan of how “jacked” looking Arnold was in all his movies and always took pride in what muscle I thought I had ha ha. Eventually in January 2006 when I was 14 years old, weighing 104lbs with 11.5″ arms I decided to start a log documenting my measurements and progression after watching an MTV True Life on competitive bodybuilding. After that I began researching photos and videos of top IFBB pro bodybuilders and became hooked! At 14 I decided I wanted to step on stage and become a competitive athlete in this sport! I was so eager to compete my father had to talk me out of jumping into a show that following month! Better believe at 15 I made it happen!

2. “Is there any books you would suggest fellow teen body builders should take a look at?”

My first book was Arnold Shwarzenegger’s encyclopedia to bodybuilding. But in all honesty I feel books are a waste of money when it comes to learning this lifestyle. I stick to the online articles and feel watching an exercise broken down on video is much more effient. Hence my channel www.youtube.com/Scondore.

3.”What supplements have worked best for you?”

Bionic Edge Mass Builder by RTN has been the only Whey Protein source in which I have actually seen a visual difference in my physique in terms of hardness, fullness, and vascularity.

As for energizing supplements, I don’t waste too much time with the pre-workout powders. I stick to SBL Rush. It lasts for 12 hours, no jitters and actually improves on your mental function as well as physical so it basically makes your run like a super human all day!

4. “What exercises would you suggest a fellow teen body builder use to gain weight and put on over all muscle mass?”

The big 3 baby! Bench press, Squats and Dead lifts. These are the 3 basic, heavy movements and every other movement branches off from them.

5. “what is your favorite body part to exercise, and what is your strongest body part”

I always go through phases. Chest is always fun, but I love all of them! My all time favorite movement is the shoulder press barbell and dumbbell. My strongest body part is definitely my back! I can barbell row 315 for a full set at a body weight of 185lbs.

6. “What are some basic tips to getting ready for a body building show.”

Stay calm! Panicking or over analyzing will get you into trouble! Stress is one of the biggest causes of water retention, and jumping the gun will make you either lose muscle or not reach your peak on time!

7: “What is your diet like when your getting ready for a show, compared to your off season diet?”

In the past, my off season diet consisted of Russet Potatoes as my major carb source and contest prep consisted of brown rice and sweet potatoes. This time around I am working with one of my sponsors Hunt-Fitness (www.Hunt-Fitness.com) on my diet this off season and it has kept me very hard lean, and allowed me to put on crazy size! This diet can be found on the site, and I can imagine my contest prep will look fairly similar with some caloric and macro adjustments as I progress.

8.”What is the key to low body fat?”

Diet, Diet, Diet! You can do all the cardio you want, and it will help but you will not reach that stage-ready body fat unless your diet is perfectly in check for fat loss.
